Topic: Basal Cell Carcinoma – The cutting edge of diagnosis and therapy

Abstract:
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common cancer in the United States, and its incidence is rising.

This lecture will review the dermoscopic features of basal cell carcinoma, as well as proper pathology reporting for both the clinician and the pathologist.

In addition, there will be a thorough discussion of the most current management strategies as recommended National Comprehensive Cancer Network and the American Academy of Dermatology for both low and high-risk basal cell carcinoma.

After obtaining an MD degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1989,
Gloster completed a Dermatology Residency at Emory University in 1993 and a Fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in 1994.

Dr Gloster is board certified in both Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery.

From 1994-2017, Dr. Gloster was Professor of Dermatology and Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, where he was responsible for the surgical education of dermatology residents and the training of fellows in Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery.

In 2018, Dr Gloster left the University of Cincinnati and joined Associates in Dermatology, a private practice in Fort Myers, Florida.

Dr Gloster’s primary areas of expertise are cutaneous oncology, Mohs Micrographic Surgery, and Reconstruction.

Dr Gloster has 28 years of experience, and his clinical practice provides a comprehensive evaluation of patients with skin cancer. In addition, patients are referred to his practice locally and regionally for consultation and/or treatment of any complex surgical issue involving hair, nails, and skin.

He is also a member of numerous local and national committees, has lectured nationally and internationally, has written numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, participates on editorial review boards of respected dermatology journals, and has co-authored and edited two medical textbooks which have been distributed nationally and internationally.
