Prof Mahlatse Kogokolo History and accolades

Mahlatse Kgokolo is a Professor and Head of Department of Dermatology at the University of Pretoria.

She’s the first female of colour to be appointed as the President of the College of Dermatologists of South Africa. She’s also a senator and member of the Education Committee of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.

Prof Kgokolo holds a Ph.D. in Dermatology, having conducted the genetic studies in collaboration with the University of Bordeaux, France. Novel genes were identified in a South African cohort with a genetic disorder, Xeroderma Pigmentosum.

Mahlatse is a founder member of the Skin Cancer Foundation and a member of the South African XP support group.

She’s also a member of the executive committee of the European Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society ( a subgroup of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology).

Kgokolo is a recipient of some research and service awards, including a Certificate of Honors awarded by The Scientific Research Society of Rutgers University, New Jersey Medical School, for outstanding leadership as Chairperson of a Dermatology Congress.

As an active national and international role player in Dermatology.

Prof Kgokolo was recently appointed as an Associate Editor of an International Journal of Dermatology, Dermatologic Therapy.
