The Skin Cancer Foundation of South Africa (SCFSA) hosts an annual meeting as part of a commitment to continued healthcare professional education and training. The meeting takes place in May every year at two conferencing venues – one in KwaZulu Natal, and one in Pretoria, Gauteng.

In 2021, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the SCFSA opts to use an online platform for the 8th Annual meeting and Skin Health Symposium, which consists of 3 channels:

  • a Scientific meeting followed by a
  • Photodynamic and Dermatology surgery Masterclass (for doctors only)
  • and a Skin Health symposium for doctors interested in aesthetics, skincare and skin health, pharmacists, aestheticians, pharmacy staff, nurses, beauticians, company representatives and interested healthcare professionals

What started as a local event, soon turned into an International virtual meeting and skin health symposium due to the overwhelming response from International speakers and delegates.

The online meeting consists of South African and International speaker presentations by dermatology experts, discussing the latest breakthroughs in the prevention and management of photodamage, evolving skin health, Actinic Keratoses, trends, and more.

It was during session 2 of the 8th Annual Skin Cancer Foundation meeting that Dr Roscher surprised delegates with this prestigious announcement and virtual handover of the first Skin Cancer Foundation lifetime achievement award.

“This first Skin Cancer Foundation lifetime achievement award is given to Dr Des Fernandes, founder of Environ skincare products, for the lifetime of research and passion he puts into the marvelous knowledge we continue to gain from his work.
